Prozac is a widely used antidepressant known for its effectiveness in treating major depression and anxiety. However, stopping it abruptly can lead to withdrawal symptoms, which may vary in intensity from mild to severe and persist for weeks or even months.
A 2019 review of existing research found that 56% of individuals experience withdrawal symptoms when discontinuing antidepressants, with 46% of them describing their symptoms as “severe.” In one study included in the review, 67% of 95 participants who suddenly stopped taking fluoxetine (Prozac) reported experiencing withdrawal symptoms.
